Self-validation is acknowledging that both your emotions and thoughts make sense given your experiences — even when they're painful. Walk through the four steps below the same way you would for a good friend.

Name both the emotions AND the thoughts that are showing up right now, without trying to change either: "I'm noticing shame — my chest is tight — and the thought ‘I'm not enough’ keeps repeating."
